BenQ Mobile and Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS will showcase jointly developed Digital Video Broadcasting Handheld (DVB-H) devices enabling mobile TV reception. The handsets receive multimedia broadcasting services and give a first impression of BenQs forthcoming products integrating DVB-H software from Fraunhofer IIS.
“With Fraunhofer IIS embedded software modules in BenQs DVB-H handsets, consumers can enjoy mobile television anywhere. Content providers will benefit from secure transmission of premium content”, says Nikolaus Faerber, Group Manager Multimedia Transport at Fraunhofer IIS.
“Mobile TV is one of the most promising applications in the near future of converging industries. BenQ Mobile invests in DVB-H enabling technology to prepare a commercial mass market in 2007. The integration of the personal video recording functionality will bring maximum experience to our customers and bridge the gap until the DVB-H coverage is completed”, comments Clemens Joos, CEO of BenQ Mobile. DVB-H is a technology to broadcast multimedia content to mobile devices. DVB-H was specifically designed to meet the requirements of portable receivers like low-power consumption and high-error robustness. It combines DVB-T (terrestrial) broadcast technology with the latest generation of MPEG-4 compression algorithms High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HE-AAC) and Advanced Video Coding (AVC).
