SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft has delayed the release of its latest Windows Media Player saying it is not quite good enough to ship yet.
According to ZD Net, a final version of WMP 11 was supposed to have been launched on Tuesday, after being publicly tested since May.
However a spokesVole said last night it said that its release had been “delayed slightly” because the player was not up to scratch.
He would not say exactly what Vole considered was broken with WMP11, nor did he give a date that it would be released. The closest ZD Net got to an official date was ‘soon’ which is quicker than ‘fairly soon’ but much slower than ‘imminent’.
Several sites have picked the date of October 30 for some reason. WMP 11 is being built into Windows Vista and probably needs more integration work than previous editions. It is also going to be the main vehicle for Urge which is Vole’s and MTV’s music subscription service and this has security problems that need to be guaranteed.
