Introduction:
Zync recently launched a new tablet named ‘Zync Z1000’. It is a budget tablet with 9.7-inch Touchscreen Display offering 1024 x 768 Pixel resolutions. Running with 1.5GHz processor and 1GB DDR3 RAM, Zync Z1000 can be a strong competitor for many other budget tablets in 10-inch display genre including Micromax Funbook Pro 10-inch budget tablet. There are many superior features in Z1000 such as Sim facility, 1.5GHz Processor, Dual Camera and many more. Though Zync Z1000 costs Rs 10,990/-, a bit higher than 10” tablets in the range of 10K, it provides better configuration and several extra features. Let’s check all of them individually.
Design, Body and keys:
In Design, Z1000 tablet looks very similar to iPad, body is completely square shape (very similar to iPad) whereas if we see Funbook and various other tablets, they have rectangular shape. Anyway, Z1000 is covered with Glossy body finish. On front side, along with Display there is only a 0.3 Megapixel camera and nothing else. Bottom and left side of the tab is completely blank. On top there are Volume Up/Down button and Back key. This back key is placed at wrong place because we never take our hand on top of the tablet while browsing or navigating menu or apps.
At the back side there is a Speaker, 2MP camera, a small Reset button and Zync Logo. All important stuffs on this device is placed on the right side which includes Mic, Power/lock key, Sim Car Slot, HDMI Port, 2 Micro USB ports, MicroSD Card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Though the design is very good in looks, we found it a bit difficult in holding in hands for long time.
Phone/Calling Features:
Zync Z1000 comes with 1 GSM SIM slot where you can insert your Mobile sim card and make/receive phone calls as well as use 2G/3G network. Phone Call quality is also very good with clear sound. Messages and Call notifications seem to be good as well. Only problem is holding the tab while talking on call. The weight (659 grams) and tablet’s size makes it very difficult (nearly impossible) to hold it while on phone with one hand. So, phone feature is only useful if you want to use headphones permanently.
Screen / Display:
Z1000 comes with 9.7 Inch HD Capacitive Touch screen display offering 1024 x 768 pixels resolution which is even better than Funbook Pro’s 1024 x 600 with 10.1 inch screen. It provides great fun while watching Movies or playing games. But if I talk about myself, personally I don’t like watching movies on 4:3 aspect ratio because this is what we get with this Tablet. It is also capable to play HD videos and few high end games.
OS, Processor, RAM:
Zync Z1000 tablet comes with Android ICS 4.0.4 and the manufacturer has said that later it can be upgraded to Jelly Bean OS. Other than this, it is powered with 1.5GHz processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, Mali-400 3D and OpenGL 2.0 for better multitasking, better application response and better gaming. Though the processor is higher than Funbook Pro, personally I didn’t notice the performance as good as Funbook. Yes, it is the negative point of Zync Z1000. I faced much freezing issues with this tab while launching apps, navigating or working with apps. Even video lags while playback. Not sure if it was because the tablet was connected on WiFi. I was expecting very good performance with such a great configuration, but to be frank, I was disappointed.
Multimedia and Gaming:
With 1.5GHz CPU, 1GB RAM and Mali-400 3D GPU we can expect very good gaming and multimedia experience but Zync Z1000 was not able to get up to the mark. We had fun playing few HD games but there are many games that lags on this tablet and runs fine on other tablet with same or lower configuration. Even playing 1080p video lags or completely freezes the tablet, no matter whether you use default video player or any third party application.
Camera:
Zync Z1000 comes with 2 Megapixel at the rear and 0.3 Megapixel camera at the front. There is no flash provided, hence in order to capture good quality image you will need an environment with better lights. However we cannot expect HD image or video from any of these cameras (2MP). There are no extra features provided with the camera like scene mods, etc; but only settings.
Built-in Apps:
Similar to Zync Cloud Z5 smartphone, Z1000 tablet also includes the same built-in apps such as BigFlix Subscription, Bollywood hungama, ibibo games, ThinkFree Office, Horoscope, Zomato, Whatsapp and many more.
Connectivity and Storage:
Zync Z1000 has useful connectivity options including high speed wifi, built-in 3G on your service providers Sim Card, Bluetooth 2.0, HDMI and Micro USB ports. Unless you are using any other connectivity options except WiFi, tablet works fine but as soon as you connect it over WiFi, the tablet will response like a P4 computer with 128MB RAM.
As per storage, the Tablet comes with 8GB built-in Storage capacity which is quite enough for storing videos, images, and songs but if still you need more then you can expand it upto 32GB using MicroSD Card.

Conclusion:
With Android ICS (which can be upgraded to Jelly Bean) and such powerful configuration, Zync Z1000 is very good tablet at a price of Rs 11,000/- for web browsing, watching movies and playing games. Its call facility makes it much better but it can be annoying for many people because the tablet cannot be hold with just one hand, and nobody would like to put both of their hands on their ears while on call. So, I didnt find its phone feature useful. If you need a tablet with call facility, of course 7” tabs are best.
As per connectivity, again its very good but on wifi your tablet will start freezing every now and then. The best part of Zync Z1000 is its battery life which provides upto 6 to 7 hours of full usage. So if you need bigger tablet for multimedia purpose, Zync Z1000 is a better choice.
Pros:
- Better battery backup
- LCD IPS Display.
- Budget Tablet
Cons:
- Freezes on WiFi.
- 4:3 aspect ratio not good for movies.
