Dell Latitude 10 Tablet PC Review

Dell Latitude 10 Tablet PC Review

Dell Latitude 10 is a Windows 8 tablet that features 10” fast responsive touchscreen and a good performance. Completely optimized for Windows 8, the tablet offers nice output with ample of Windows 8 application on it. Due to bigger screen it becomes easier for you to work on office files or web surfing. Also for multimedia it supports different audio/video formats. Compared to a regular 7” android tablet, Dell Latitude 10 is bigger and better. It might be expensive but due to the feature provided on it, the tablet plays a major role for professional work. It is well designed to give a fast and smooth responsive multi-touch interface. As we are aware that, compared to Android, you can work on more application in Windows platform. With better readability features and onscreen support the visibility is improved to great extent. The tablet works on Intel ATOM processor that is capable of multi-tasking with great performance.

Above are the features and specifications of the table. With Windows 8 support the tablet performs pretty well for different application. There is no sim slot provided on it. Also it lacks a slot for MicroSD card. You have to use a Full Size Card adapter for using MicroSD Card. Or else the internal storage I think is quiet enough. The internal storage is around 64GB among which 20GB is used by Windows itself. So around 25 to 30GB space is left for other purpose. There is a hidden recovery partition also that allows you to restore Windows 8 in case of any issue.  Dell Latitude features a more rugged design. The durable body offers you rough usage, while you can simply use an additional battery with it. Due to swappable battery you can simply remove it and use a charged one. But you have to buy that separately from Dell.

The grip is great on the tablet. With all connectivity options you can use it on Wifi. As I said there is no SIM slot provided. You have to use it on wifi for net connectivity only. The camera quality is also decent. A 2MP camera on front delivers clear images while chatting, while the back camera has better output. It is an 8MP camera with flash. But constant photos clicked on flash drains out the battery really fast. The body offers a firm grip while holding it. The edges are coated with rubber material to make your grip stronger. The weight is around 649 gram that makes it lighter while using.

There is few other Windows 8 tablet available in the market, but compared to all of them Dell is much more durable. The touch gesture on Windows 8 is nicely optimized. But still on Windows we are having a common habit of using mouse and on this tablet you can get a bit annoyed with copy-paste. To overcome that you can use a wireless usb mouse or keyboard with the tablet. There is a single usb port provided on the tablet pc. On that you have to just connect the usb dongle and you are done. You can use it comfortably. The same is applicable for a usb mouse or keyboard also.

The laptop operates on 1.8 GHz Intel Atom processor. That offers it enough power for various multi-tasking operations. Still the processor is limited to mobile power, so you cannot expect high output from it. Like watching movies on one side and copying files from Wifi on the other, as it will make the tablet to freeze for a while. Performance point of view the tablet is entry level. But as portable site we cannot expect much from it. The wifi transfer rate is average. It is a mid range tablet that will be a great companion for your day to day task. But do not try to do stuff what you do on your computer. I had installed number of applications and found that the performance kept on degrading. For example using Nokia PC suite, the phone is connected and identified, but as you keep on loading application it gets slower. Here Microsoft must work on creating some thin application for Windows 8 Tablet edition. Like a Tablet edition of Microsoft Office and other various tools.

Dell does not offer any dock with the tablet. While a close competitor like Samsung ATIV comes with clamshell keyboard which allow you to use it like a netbook. For Dell you have to buy that separately. The tablet has a very dull stylus. The experience we got on Samsung was far more superior. According to me it is worthless to use Stylus on Dell Latitude. It is very thick and big like a pen and the response is not great. But still we found Dell Latitude 10 a great tablet for various work. There are ample of connectivity options available, like Wifi and Bluetooth, through which you can simply share your files on the web. Talking about the performance, as I said, you cannot expect much. It is not capable of performing heavy task. Due to mobile processor, things are limited. But Windows 8 on the same hands give you more improved functionality.

Conclusion

Dell Latitude 10 is a decent Windows 8 tablet pc with nice output and desktop like features. When you buy a Windows 8 tablet then simply assume that you are carrying a portable pc with you. You can install a number of exe files that you use on regular system. The cost of this tablet is around Rs.40000 approx. This might be costly but the tablet has tons of features and it can do stuff which is not at all possible in Android and iOS, like using Microsoft Office Application, Remote Desktop control through Team Viewer with complete desktop experience, USB/Wifi keyboard mouse connectivity, access to Windows LAN network and transfer files through it, etc. The tablet also has a decent battery performance.

Pros:
  • Dual Design
  • Windows 8 Pro Optimized
  • Full Size Memory Card Adapter
  • Great Performance

Cons:
  • Dull Stylus
  • Single USB 2.0 Port
  • No Slim Slot
  • No Dock in Package
