Intex Technologies recently launched a new Mobile phone which is actually named as “Intex PLAYER Gaming Phone.” As its name includes “Player” it makes us to think about gaming devices like we saw one in the past similar to ‘Xperia Play’ which is a smartphone but dedicated for Gamers. Similarly this is the next Mobile phone dedicated for gaming. Intex Player is the first ever mobile phone that comes with over 1000 preloaded games in all genre including Sports, Action, Adventure, Puzzle, Shooting and more. It has 2.8-inch TFT touch screen display with 2 dedicated gaming buttons. Along with Gaming, the device also works as a mobile phone and comes with Dual Sim slots. It has both Hindi and English language support. There is also a 1.3 Megapixel camera for capturing images but surely we cannot expect a quality image from this camera. We get all these at the price of Rs. 2,790/-. Let’s take a look about this Gaming phone.
Design, Body and keys: Intex Player has a very small compact design packed under plastic Glossy finishing with round shape on all corners. The device has just 5 buttons in total including 2 gaming buttons on the screen. These 2 keys are capacitive keys and only used when you are playing games. They don’t have any other usage in the rest of phone activity. Rest of the 3 buttons includes a Back Key, Power On/Off Key and a Home key having rounded scroll border. 1.3 Megapixel camera without Flash is placed on the rear side of the phone along with a loud speaker. At the bottom of the device we have a MIC and at the top there is MicroUSB port which is used for file transfer as well as charging the phone battery. There is nothing on the left or right side of the device.
Screen and Configuration: Intex Player phone features a 2.8-inch TFT touch screen display. It is a very basic display with just 240 x 320 pixel resolution. I don’t know how people would love playing games or like watching movies on such small screen. There is just 194KB of internal storage provided with the phone which is of no use obviously, but you can expand the storage upto 16GB using MicroSD Card. However you get 4GB Memory Card for free with the device at the time of purchase. As per connectivity you have options like EDGE /GPRS /WAP, Bluetooth and MicroUSB. The phone doesn’t support 3G or WiFi.
Multimedia and Gaming: As far as Multimedia is concerned, Intex Player Mobile comes with Audio-Video player and it supports only MP3 and WAV file formats for Audio and AVI, 3GP, Mp4 for Video file format. We cannot expect playing HD videos on this device. Now talking about Gaming, as the phone itself is dedicated for Gaming, we get more than 1000 games pre-installed on the phone in different Genre including Strategy, RPG, Shooting, Racing and more. We just have to tap the “Game Box” icon from the Application Menu and select the game we want to play. There are also some settings provided using which you can save your game progress or load earlier saved game. You can also rotate the game screen from 90 degrees to 270 degrees. If you are on a long trip and you own Intex Player Phone, I bet you won’t get bored.
Applications and Performance: Apart from gaming, we have some basic features of a mobile phone in this device. You can make/receive phone calls, SMSes, listen Music, FM Radio with recording, etc. The device also offers some useful apps like Mobile Tracker, Notes, Calculator, Voice Recorder, Calendar, Alarm, etc. The phone also comes with built-in Blacklist/Whitelist feature where you can block unwanted callers. The device is also capable to store 1000 contacts in phone memory and 500 SMS as well. You can also use the smart dial and auto call record features along with battery manager.
Battery: Intex Player is powered with 1200 mAh battery that provides minimum 4 hours of battery life in usage mode. That includes music, talk time and gaming. Apart from this the battery is capable of providing standby time of up to 200 hours.

Conclusion: At a price of Rs. 2,790/-, Intex Player is a worth device where you can play over 1000s of games (obviously not HD games), listen music with recordable FM Radio, can block calls, have phone tracking ability and many more features. The device has all abilities that used to be found in older mobile phones, some 5 to 7 years ago, but with 1000 preloaded video games which we never had in any phone. Also the phone lets you to access both Hindi and English languages which makes it comfortable for low educated people. Intex Player Gaming Phone can be your best buddy if you are on a long trip.
